CRIME NEWS

  • State College Police took 20-year-old Braeden Phillips from Milroy into custody after investigating terroristic threats against State College Area High School—he was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful possession of a firearm and is now held without bail at Centre County Correctional Facility.  Onward State

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity held its fourth annual Super Gay 5K yesterday outside the HUB-Robeson Center as part of Penn State Pride Month (360 people registered) and the race ran from 9 a.m. until the last runner returned around 10:30 a.m. Medals were later awarded to the three fastest finishers.  Daily Collegian
  • State College hosted its 3rd annual APIDA festival on Saturday in downtown State College, where Mayor Ezra Nanes led a proclamation for Asian American and Pacific Islander Month and condemned visa actions affecting international students—while community groups, students and cultural organizations celebrated with food, music and art at booths along Fraser Street and Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza.  Daily Collegian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County will host the local competition for the 2025 National Civics Bee at 10 a.m. on April 15 at the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub in downtown State College, where 11 middle school finalists will compete on civics rounds. Winners will earn cash prizes and advance to state finals in State College for a chance to compete in the national championship later this fall (with prizes totaling at least $50,000).  StateCollege.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, Penn State softball bounced back from a 9-5 loss by beating No. 23 Ohio State 11-2 in five innings, with the Nittany Lions hitting multiple home runs (three of their seven hits). The win marked their first over a ranked opponent since Feb. 10, 2024.  Daily Collegian
  • On Saturday night, Penn State swept George Mason in five sets at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax—keeping its No. 1 seed bid alive in the EIVA Tournament. The team will return home to Rec Hall to begin a two-match series against Princeton at 7 p.m. on Friday.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State defeated Johns Hopkins 10-4 in a lacrosse game at Panzer Stadium today—Matt Traynor scored seven goals to lead the Nittany Lions. The win comes after tough losses and sets up Senior Night Friday at 6 p.m. against Rutgers.  Daily Collegian
