- ➤ Penn State Sustainability and partners will host the fourth annual Student Sustainability Summit on Thursday, April 23 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the HUB Lawn and in Heritage Hall at the HUB-Robeson Center (free event) where attendees will enjoy tabling, awards and a keynote by Laurene Allen. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire in Penn State’s Chem Building led to an evacuation this morning when a chemical fume hood ignited on the second floor of the Benkovic Building along Science Drive; Alpha Fire Company and Penn State Police responded, and no injuries were reported despite damage to equipment. ABC 23

- ➤ Dunkin’ has leased a 1,848 sqft space in the former Rite Aid building at 821 E. Bishop St. in Bellefonte and will open late summer as the first tenant in a redevelopment that will also host a phone carrier, sandwich shop, and fitness center. StateCollege.com

- ➤ Essence of Joy will present 'Total Praise: Richard Smallwood in Conversation with J.S. Bach' on Sunday, Apr. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Recital Hall (University Park); the concert interweaves sacred works of J.S. Bach and Richard Smallwood to explore themes of faith and praise. Penn State
- ➤ Country singers Cole Swindell and Gabby Barrett will perform a free concert at the Bryce Jordan Center on May 23 as part of America250 (the first stop in the five-city Commonwealth Concert Series led by Gov. Shapiro). Tickets must be reserved on America250PA’s website. StateCollege.com
- ➤ The Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble will hold its final performance on Wednesday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall, showcasing music inspired by oppressive regimes with works by Boris Kozhevnikov, Jennifer Jolley, and a world premiere by professor David Stambler (Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensemble). - ➤ Penn State College of Engineering has named student marshals for spring commencement at University Park to honor top students from each major and ROTC for their academic and leadership achievements. They will serve as representatives during the ceremony. Penn State
- ➤ Graduate student Alejandra Armesto Gómez received the 2025-26 Ardeth and Norman Frisbey International Student Award at a recent ceremony hosted by Penn State Global in University Park, recognizing her work in sustainable agricultural development and global collaboration. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State recognized 20 dedicated employees on April 9 for their outstanding work in departments such as Environmental Health, Physical Plant, and Health Services. The We Are feature highlights their commitment to smooth operations and strengthens the university community. Penn State
- ➤ Nobel laureate Andrea Ghez presented the Marker Lecture at Penn State University Park today, detailing her research on supermassive black holes using (20 years of imaging data) to strengthen evidence of our galaxy's central black hole and outline future research avenues. Penn State
- ➤ Thirty-one Penn State graduate students were recognized for their research, scholarship, and creative projects at the Graduate Exhibition hosted by the J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School on March 27 at University Park campus. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State's Timothy J. Piazza Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research released a new report, Charge for Change, outlining research-informed policies to meet the federal Stop All Campus Hazing Act. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new Penn State study found that planting grass groundcovers between vines shifted the soil microbe community from shallow to up to a meter deep. The research took place at the Rock Springs research vineyard in 2019 and 2020 (findings may guide future crop care). Penn State
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Penn State's men's hockey team had high hopes in the 2025-26 season but finished third in the Big Ten and missed the Frozen Four. Coach Guy Gadowsky said the season taught the team to handle high expectations and build its underdog identity. Onward State
