COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Centre Safe and partners will host a series of events this April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and to mark its 50th anniversary, including Take Back the Night at Old Main on April 1 and a benefit concert at Freeman Auditorium on April 4 to support survivors.  StateCollege.com
  • Linda Gramley is working to have a small bridge on West Main Street dedicated to her father, Robert Moore (a veteran and community pillar), to honor his life of service in Boalsburg. A township meeting is expected in the coming weeks to finalize the dedication.  StateCollege.com
  • State College hosts a busy week of events starting today with yoga & Charleston dance lessons, craft sessions on Tuesday, salsa lessons and Flourish Fest on Wednesday, a bird walk and fly fishing film tour on Thursday, followed by softball & a star party later in the week.  Daily Collegian

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Powwow celebrated 20 years of Native American culture at the C3 Sports Complex on Saturday and Sunday with traditional art, music (Honor Song) and dance performances honoring founder John Sanchez and community ties. The event united locals and veterans to pay tribute to heritage.  Daily Collegian
  • SPA and Opulence are hosting a free drag show featuring Bianca Del Rio and Alyssa Edwards on Saturday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the HUB's Alumni Hall (student tickets are available starting today at 7 p.m.).  Onward State
  • Podward State released its second episode of season 14 featuring former cheerleader Dani Sekelsky who shared her Penn State journey and dream of wrestling in Beaver Stadium (produced by Onward State) while the episode is available on Spotify and YouTube.  Onward State

  • A local feature ranks the top 10 loudest crowd reactions in Penn State history, including Tessa Janecke’s game-tying goal against Wisconsin at the Frozen Four (compiled by Cadyn Gill) that energized Pegula Stadium.  Onward State
  • Penn State men’s hockey season ended in Albany when the Nittany Lions lost 3-1 to Minnesota-Duluth in the NCAA Regional Semifinals (photographers captured the final moments on ice).  Onward State
  • Defensive tackle Alonzo Ford Jr. declared for the NFL Draft after three seasons at Penn State and showcased his strength at the Pro Day; his powerful build and performance may make him a late-round consideration when the draft begins April 23.  Onward State
  • Penn State women's lacrosse lost by one goal to No. 3 Maryland in a close game today. Freshman Roquette Allen scored five goals + helped the team stay competitive despite turnovers.  Onward State
  • Penn State softball swept Rutgers over the weekend with wins of 8 to 0, 7 to 6, and 7 to 5 as strong hitting by Oneacre and Lieto drove scoring. The Nittany Lions will face Pitt on Tuesday, Mar. 31 at 6:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh.  Onward State
  • Freshman guard Tèa Clèante entered the transfer portal on Saturday after head coach Tanisha Wright was hired. She averaged 8.7 points, 2.9 assists, and 1.6 steals last season with the Lady Lions and will search for a new team.  Onward State
