BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buffalo Wild Wings opened its new restaurant on March 25 in downtown State College—its grand opening attracted students and residents with a menu of popular wings, a full bar, and many TVs for game-day viewing. The venue in the Maxxen aims to become a regular meeting spot for friends and sports fans enjoying live events.  Onward State

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State is hosting a series of community celebrations in the coming weeks to honor graduating students and their heritage—each event welcomes all supporters. The events include the APIDA Spring Festival on April 12 at MLK Plaza, the Latinx Community Celebration on April 18 at Alumni Hall, the Indigenous Peoples Community Celebration on April 21 at Heritage Hall with keynote speaker Robert Odawi Porter, Lavender Recognition on April 25 at Alumni Hall, and Black Community Celebration on May 2 at Heritage Hall.  Penn State
  • Landis Crawford, a Schreyer Scholar majoring in agricultural engineering, grew up on a family farm and built her love for farming and leadership during her time at Behrend and University Park—she started the Behrend Schreyer Council to build community and will use her skills in sustainable nutrient management to help reduce pollution on farms.  Penn State
  • United Socialists at Penn State hosted an event (History of Penn State Student Activism) on March 27th in University Park where speakers Ron Scott, Todd May, Jennifer Black, and Robin Hoecker shared first-hand accounts of protests and campus movements. The presentations aimed to help current activists learn from past efforts addressing issues like racial justice and institutional challenges.  Daily Collegian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State men’s volleyball will face Charleston today at Rec Hall in their 19th match as the team works to improve from a 5-13 record; coach Mark Pavlik said they are focused on reducing errors—vital to winning the EIVA and reaching the NCAA Tournament.  Onward State
  • Penn State alumni Darian Somers and Steve Sampsell have launched the first Penn State Sports Hall of Fame to honor athletes and coaches from all 31 varsity teams. They opened a nomination and voting process to podcast listeners, and the winners will be revealed in early April after voting ends on Monday, March 31.  Onward State
  • On March 2nd, Penn State hockey celebrated 25 years of Rodney Martin serving as the voice of the team at Pegula Ice Arena. He began as a student announcer in 1996 and said the arena’s energy feels like a drug that gives him a rush.  Onward State
  • Penn State sprinter Zoey Goldstein set school records and earned All-American honors after beginning her career as a walk-on—she also secured a full-ride scholarship in her graduate year and shares her journey on TikTok to inspire young runners. Coach Brandon Rizzo praised her work ethic, noting that her success has motivated teammates to work hard for their goals.  Daily Collegian
  • On March 8, Penn State broke a 70-year scoring record when Zach Hicks made a clutch free throw that gave the team an 86-75 win against Wisconsin—breaking the record set by the 1954-55 squad.  Daily Collegian
  • The 2025-26 Penn State wrestling team will build on last season’s success as three seniors (Bartlett, Starocci, and Kerkvliet) leave and new wrestlers like Luke Lilledahl, Masanosuke Ono and Marcus Blaze are expected to join the lineup. Coach Cael Sanderson said the team may break the NCAA championship points record as it prepares for the new season.  Daily Collegian
