- ➤ Penn State professor Kirk French showed his new documentary 'A Century After Nanook' at State Theatre on March 1 while most students celebrated State Patty’s Day. The film mixes old film footage with interviews to show how the Inuit in Inukjuak have faced big changes from climate and culture—PBS will show it later this summer. Onward State
- ➤ Counting Winter by Nancy White Carlstrom, illustrated by Claudia McGehee and published by Eerdmans Books for Young Readers, won the 2025 Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award—an honor for the best new children’s poetry book published last year. - ➤ Today, school officials evacuated students and staff from Penns Valley Elementary and Intermediate School in Centre County after a threat written on a wall was deemed non-specific, and a State Police K-9 unit later confirmed the building is safe (the investigation continues). ABC 23
- ➤ The Penn State Emeritus Academy announced seven emeritus faculty will serve as Academy Professors for Spring 2025. The honored professors include Milton W. Cole, Lorah D. Dorn, Daryl Durran, Hannah Kliger, Richard Kopley, Martin T. Pietrucha and Denise Potosky for their work in teaching, research and service. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State’s Teaching and Learning with Technology is accepting applications for the Faculty Engagement Awards with a theme of Generative Artificial Intelligence for Teaching including Microsoft CoPilot 365 until April 21. Award recipients will receive one-year access to Microsoft CoPilot 365 and ChatGPT Teams—working with instructional designers to gauge how AI tools can improve course planning and delivery. - ➤ Penn State softball traveled to Bloomington last week and lost a Big Ten series to Indiana as pitching struggles led to high-scoring games of 7-5, 17-4, and a close 14-13 opener. Senior Maddie Gordon set school records by hitting two home runs and driving in six runs—her standout performance came despite the team's ongoing road challenges. Daily Collegian
- ➤ James Franklin said the Blue-White Game on April 26 at 2 p.m. will not be televised and may feature fewer live hits, shortened quarters, and no halftime to help improve player safety—he added fans will still see key plays that show what Penn State football may look like next season. - ➤ Penn State women’s gymnasts performed well at the Big Ten Championship in Ann Arbor, Michigan as Maddie Johnston, Dani Latronica and Elizabeth Leary scored high on beam, vault and bars to keep the team in the contest.
