CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian John Mulaney will perform his Mister Whatever tour at the Bryce Jordan Center on Oct. 22 in State College; presale tickets start today at 10 a.m. (code BJC30) with general sale set for Friday, and students can buy tickets for $30 using valid student ID.  Onward State

  • Susan J. Loeb, a professor at Penn State’s Nese College of Nursing, has been named a distinguished professor for her work in gerontological nursing and correctional health — her research has improved care for aging and incarcerated individuals while shaping online training programs.  Penn State
  • Lee Kump will end his deanship at Penn State College of EMS effective June 30 and return as a geosciences professor, ending nearly nine years as dean. President Neeli Bendapudi announced the new Lee Kump Presidential Award (honoring his 40 years of service) to recognize his contributions.  Penn State
  • A student group mounted a display on the HUB lawn Monday to show solidarity for Palestinians as part of their Week of Action. The exhibit featured five scenes depicting life in Palestine and continued with talks and displays tomorrow + it aims to educate attendees on ongoing issues.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State astronomers have found that supermassive black holes grow slower today than during cosmic noon because there is less cold gas available. Their study using data from Chandra, XMM-Newton and eROSITA indicates the slowdown will continue.  Penn State
  • SEIU president April Verrett will deliver the 31st Philip Murray Memorial Labor Lecture at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 in 104 Keller Building at Penn State, with the free event promoting discussion on labor issues (Money. Power. Respect. A Labor Agenda for the Next Generation).  Penn State

  • State College boys tennis beat Central Dauphin 4-1 on Monday at Harrisburg in Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth division play (the Little Lions won key doubles and singles matches to improve their record to 5-0).  PennLive
  • Maggie Mendelson will enter the transfer portal after one season with Penn State's Lady Lions. The 6-5 player averaged 2 points and 3.3 rebounds in basketball and earned a national volleyball championship before her current stint.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State head coach Matt Campbell previewed spring practice on Tuesday in Beaver Stadium’s media room — saying quarterback Rocco Becht is progressing well in his recovery and new receiver coach Kashif Moore is expected to strengthen the team while injured players should return by fall camp.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State women's basketball commit Chikae Desdunes reopened her recruitment on Tuesday after a coaching change in Happy Valley. The 4-star guard from DME Academy — who helped her team reach the Grind Sessions Final Four — is exploring new programs.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men’s basketball guard Melih Tunca (who averaged 7.8 points in 23 minutes per game) will enter the transfer portal, his agent said on Tuesday, March 24. He is the first Nittany Lion to announce such a move.  Onward State
  • Wrestler Mitchell Mesenbrink (165-pound competitor) won his second NCAA Championship Saturday night when he defeated longtime rival Mikey Caliendo. He said his win highlighted that wrestling is only one part of his life as he pursues music, chess, and time with family.  Daily Collegian
