GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ferguson Township supervisors approved having the Parks Committee review the Cecil Irvin Park master plan (located near Pine Grove Mills) before the state grant expires in 2027. Staff will consult stakeholders over the next three months to decide on phase 2 improvements including parking, an access driveway and a pavilion.  StateCollege.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Centre County PAWS received 37 dogs, including 3 litters of puppies, from an ongoing humane investigation. The rescued dogs came in poor condition (with flea infestations and minimal veterinary care) and now are getting baths, microchipping, and vaccinations while the team seeks community support.  Daily Collegian

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 3 Penn State women’s hockey lost 4-3 in overtime to No. 2 Wisconsin during their first Frozen Four appearance at Pegula Ice Arena (record 5,176 fans attended) as both teams engaged in intense power plays.  Onward State
  • Penn State baseball lost the series opener 12-7 to Purdue on Friday in West Lafayette as errors and a late surge led to the loss. The Nittany Lions will play again at 2:00 p.m. today, aiming to rebound in the series.  Onward State
  • Penn State women’s lacrosse will begin Big Ten play tomorrow at noon in Happy Valley against Michigan. The Nittany Lions, with a 9-1 record after a loss to Princeton, face a renewed series tied at 6-6 in past matchups.  Daily Collegian
  • At the NCAA Championships on Mar. 19, Penn State wrestlers went perfect in quarterfinals, earning All-American honors in all eight matches and extending their team lead to 105.5 points over Nebraska. Their strong performance boosted local pride ahead of upcoming semifinals.  Daily Collegian
  • Tessa Janecke of Penn State reached her 200th career point on Mar. 20 during the Frozen Four by scoring a short-angle power play goal against No. 2 Wisconsin — raising her season total to 25 goals as she remains the team’s top point-scorer.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State softball's home opener against Wisconsin was delayed until 7 p.m. at Beard Field due to rain. The game, originally set for 5 p.m., was the first of a three-game series.  Daily Collegian
  • Six Penn State wrestlers advanced to the NCAA Championship finals in Session 4 after strong wins against opponents — tying an NCAA record for most finalists from one team. The team led with 153 points while Oklahoma State remained in second place.  Daily Collegian
