CRIME NEWS

  • Centre County funeral home director Garrett A. Singer was charged with one count of abuse of a corpse after a probe found that a body had decomposed on a table for nearly six weeks—actions that upset the deceased’s daughter and led to a lawsuit, while his preliminary hearing is set for May 7.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Catharine Axley is a film professor at Penn State who teaches classes on making movies and writing about media. She is making a long film about how the cruise industry affects people—she plans to film in places like Portugal, the Bahamas, Turkey, India and will finish shooting by early 2026.  Penn State
  • On March 5, Penn State University Press granted full access to its 85 journals to all University Libraries users so that they can read scholarly research via the Scholarly Publishing Collective—without needing to sign up. The journals cover many subjects in the humanities and social sciences, helping to boost academic learning.  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Penn State wrestling team is predicted to face tough matches at the NCAA Championships as the undefeated team, led by true freshman Luke Lilledahl in the 125 pound division, prepares for important rematches this week. Experts say Lilledahl may soon compete against Purdue’s Matt Ramos—while challenges in the 133, 141 and 149 pound divisions also could test the Nittany Lions.  Onward State
  • Former Penn State defensive end Smith Vilbert said on Wednesday that he will transfer to North Carolina—joining head coach Bill Belichik after seven seasons. He recorded 4.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss in 35 games and thanked the team for their support.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State signee Kayden Mingo was named the Gatorade New York Boys Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 13.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 27 games and helping Long Island Lutheran post a 21-6 record and earn bids to the upcoming Throne National Championships and Chipotle Nationals. He will compete for a rotation role at Happy Valley next season as roster changes open new opportunities.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State wrestling ended its second-round bouts on March 20th in Philadelphia with all 10 wrestlers winning to complete a perfect 20-0 record and each advanced to today’s quarterfinals. The team scored bonus points in 13 of 20 matches and leads the standings (39.5 points) ahead of its rivals.  StateCollege.com
  • On Thursday, Penn State wrestlers went 10-0 in the first session of the NCAA Championships at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, earning a 24-point team lead. Session II will continue today at 7 p.m. on ESPN — all matches will be held at the same venue.  StateCollege.com
