CULTURE NEWS

  • The Penn State School of Music and the Saxophone Studio are hosting the North American Saxophone Alliance Regional Conference on March 29—30 at University Park. More than 150 saxophonists will join 60 free concerts, lectures and masterclasses that are open to everyone.  Penn State

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State’s Cocoziello Institute of Real Estate Innovation announced two major philanthropic contributions to boost its research and educational programs—one from Rick and Susan Sokolov and a separate gift from Lou March Jr. The matched donations will fund industry partnerships, research expenses, faculty travel, and an annual speaker series that will support real estate innovation.  Penn State
  • Penn State AI Week will run from April 14 through April 17 at University Park and is led by the Penn State AI Hub to show work in artificial intelligence and discuss its ethics and legal impacts. Attendees can join in-person, virtual or hybrid sessions including panels, workshops and a poster session while AI Award nominations end on March 24 (5 p.m.) and poster submissions are due on March 31 (11:59 p.m.).  Penn State

HEALTH NEWS

  • Penn State Extension will offer its Build Your Bones webinar series on osteoporosis prevention and bone health, with seven live sessions scheduled from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Fridays from April 4 to May 16. Participants will pay $15 (registration is required and includes access to live classes and recordings) while trained educators provide key tips on nutrition, exercises and safe movement (covering tests, medications and fall prevention strategies).  Penn State

  • Penn State wrestling shows strong individual storylines at the NCAA Championships—freshman Luke Lilledahl, who won many youth titles, enters his first national tournament while sophomore Tyler Kasak turned a past upset into seven straight wins and a Big Ten title, and four-time champion Carter Starocci, now competing at 184 pounds to improve his technique, aims for a historic fifth title.  Onward State
  • The Nittany Lions won 22-8 over Robert Morris on March 18, which moved them to No. 4 in the USILA poll. They will play No. 9 Ohio State at 7 p.m. Sunday at Panzer Stadium—game airing on Big Ten Network.  Daily Collegian
  • NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah published his third mock draft on Tuesday that projects Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter will be picked second by the Cleveland Browns + tight end Tyler Warren will fall to the Indianapolis Colts with the 14th selection ahead of the NFL Draft just over a month away. The analyst noted that Carter has a chance to be the Nittany Lions’ first top overall draft pick since defensive end Courtney Brown in 2000 and added that Warren’s drop came after other prospects improved at the NFL Scouting Combine.  StateCollege.com
