- ➤ Uncle John's Jawns— a cheesesteak grill outside Antifragile Brewing— was ordered closed until further notice by Centre Region Code Administration. It opened in 2023 at 324 E. Calder Way following the closing of Bradley's Cheesesteaks and Hoagies. Onward State
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Registration is now open for the 2025 First-Gen Student Support Summit to be held March 27 at University Park. Faculty, staff and student support professionals will gather—using asynchronous sessions available from March 24—to share practical strategies that help first-generation students succeed. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State will celebrate Women’s History Month this March with events that honor the achievements of women on campus and beyond. The program includes an interactive session with Bianca Flowers on Monday, a webinar by Penn State Health on Tuesday, a lecture by Drew Afualo on Thursday and a student bus trip to Philadelphia on March 29 — additional activities are available via the Libby app and at campus venues. - ➤ Penn State Startup Week powered by PNC will run from March 24 to 28 and offer free workshops, talks and networking events for students to learn about business ideas—more than a dozen student-run groups will display their projects at the Startup Marketplace on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Penn State
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Penn State women’s lacrosse lost 16-7 to No. 3 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon in Evanston—extending their five-game losing streak as turnovers and fouls allowed the Wildcats to score easily throughout the match. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State won 5-1 on March 16th in their first Big Ten conference softball game against Minnesota after coming from behind in the second inning. The Nittany Lions will play Indiana at 6 p.m. Friday — three players remain injured. Daily Collegian
- ➤ No. 5 Penn State men’s gymnastics upset No. 4 Nebraska on Sunday at Rec Hall and clinched a shared Big Ten regular season title— the team honored its seniors on Senior Day. The gymnasts will compete at the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor on April 4-5. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Nine Penn State athletes competed in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship over two days, and only one earned First Team All-American honors. In the men’s 800, Olivier Desmeules finished last among the finalists on Saturday—earning his first career First Team accolade amid the challenging meet. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State’s JJ Wiebusch scored with 9:05 left in the second period to give the Lions a 2-1 lead in the Big Ten semifinals against Ohio State, but the Buckeyes tied and then won 4-3 in overtime, ending Penn State’s tournament run. His goal was the fifth of the tournament as the team now awaits its national tournament seeding. Daily Collegian
