COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over 20,000 supporters have helped secure WPSU's future as its broadcast license is transferred to WHYY — an effort preserving local identity after Penn State ended funding.   • Keene's Barber Shop, a family-owned business in Millheim, will celebrate its 75th anniversary next month as owner Rob Jackson honors a legacy that began on April 9, 1951 - he remains committed to keeping the tradition alive in the community.  StateCollege.com

  • Chipotle Mexican Grill will open its third Centre County location featuring a drive-thru Chipotlane. It will host an invite-only event on Mar. 18 and open to the public on Thursday, Mar. 19 at 1880 S. Atherton St. during operating hours from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Onward State

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a first game win of 11-6, Penn State lost its second home game 13-4 to Iowa at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park due to pitching issues + the team will play again today at 1 p.m. as it seeks to rally and improve.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men's volleyball lost to USC in a three-set match at the Galen Center during their West Coast tour, winning only one set in three games. The team will face Ohio State at Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25.  Daily Collegian
  • After a season-saving win over Minnesota on Saturday, Penn State men's hockey lost 5-2 to Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament & now await their NCAA selection on March 22.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State women’s hockey beat UConn 3-0 at Pegula Ice Arena as Abby Stonehouse scored an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left, earning the team its first Frozen Four appearance. Coach Katie DeSa said the win marked a milestone during a historic season (a breakthrough for the program).  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State softball fell to Oregon after an 8-2 game on Friday and a 10-1 loss on Saturday — the team struggled to stop the Ducks’ lineup and will face them again today at 3 p.m. in the series finale.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men's lacrosse lost 10-8 to North Carolina today in their first ACC matchup (ending a two-game win streak). The team returns to Happy Valley next Saturday at 3 p.m. for a White Out game against Maryland.  Daily Collegian
  • Former Penn State football captain Rasheed Walker signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Panthers. He played well with the Packers and will join Carolina to add his strength and skill on the offensive line.  Onward State
