  • State College area restaurant The Field Burger & Tap unveiled the Coach Campbell’s Roman Burger on Thursday, Mar. 5. The new burger, designed by the head football coach, features a beef patty topped with salami, mortadella, white cheddar, arugula, tomato, onion, mayo & Italian dressing on a brioche roll.  StateCollege.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • College of Arts and Architecture’s School of Visual Arts will host Ghanaian-born artist Eugene Ofori Agyei for an Anderson Lecture Series talk on Tuesday, March 17 at 11:30 a.m. in Foster Auditorium at the Paterno Library (free to attend).  Penn State
  • Contemporary chamber music group Decoda and special guest Ringdown will present 'Reverberations' at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Recital Hall at Penn State. The concert features a collaboration with School of Music students on Aaron Copland’s 'Appalachian Spring' and a post-show talk.  Penn State
  • Disney: The Tale of Moana, a production aboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship featuring scenic design by Penn State professor Milagros Ponce de León, received the IAAPA Brass Ring Excellence Award for best creative year-round theatrical performance. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State Smeal College of Business announced that entrance-to-major GPA requirements for students starting summer/fall 2026 have been approved under the Smeal Direct initiative, ensuring clear placement for direct admits & offering a competitive second-year entry process for others.  Penn State
  • Emma Uhlman, a junior majoring in animal science at Penn State, supports prospective students through Ag Advocates and manages recruitment events like the livestock show to build a welcoming campus community (she is a fourth-generation Penn Stater).  Penn State
  • Penn State scientists discovered that lightning-like discharges can be triggered in everyday materials on a lab bench using high-powered electron sources (the research may lead to safer, smaller X-ray sources for medical and security settings). The findings offer a new way to study lightning physics in controlled conditions.  Penn State
  • Three new department heads will take charge at the College of IST effective July 1 after serving as interim leaders since July 2025. Cai heads Human-Centered Computing and Social Informatics, Huang leads Informatics and Intelligent Systems, and Lee manages Privacy and Cybersecurity Informatics to boost research and education.  Penn State

  • Fish fry season returns during Lent as churches, fire departments and businesses offer meals on Friday evenings. Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Port Matilda, Columbia Volunteer Fire Company and other venues serve fried fish with sides for $14-$25 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.  Onward State

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 13 Penn State men’s lacrosse will host No. 9 Cornell for Youth Lacrosse Day at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Panzer Stadium in Happy Valley — a rematch of their 2025 national semifinal game known for close contests this season.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State Athletics announced Thursday that they fired head coach Carolyn Kieger after seven seasons with an 84-123 record at the helm of the Lady Lions. The athletic department will begin its search for a new coach immediately.  Onward State
  • On March 5, Penn State fired women's basketball coach Carolyn Kieger after the Lady Lions finished an 11-18 season; her departure ends a seven-year era as the program faces new challenges with its roster.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State women's gymnastics will head to Columbus on Sunday to compete in a quad meet against NC State, Ohio State and Eastern Michigan. The team hopes to build on a record setting performance last week as they prepare for their next challenge with North Carolina.  Daily Collegian
  • Freshman forward Gavin McKenna (2 goals, 12 assists) earned his second HCA Rookie of the Month award in February after a record eight-point game against Ohio State. Penn State men's hockey will conclude its regular season with games Thursday and Friday.  Daily Collegian
