  • The Downtown State College Improvement District has launched the Calder Way Construction Crawl to help families enjoy activities during ongoing road construction, with free hard hats and stickers available at local businesses and a free activity book pickup plus a chance for parents to win a $150 Downtown Gift Card in a monthly raffle through July.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State announced its annual Blue-White Weekend will be held on April 25. The football program said more details will be shared on social media as the team finalizes its spring event plans.  StateCollege.com
  • Nominations are open until April 3 for the John Roe Sustainability Impact Awards—recognizing Penn State students and faculty who advance sustainability via the United Nations' global goals. Winners may receive $1,000 for students and $1,500 for faculty.  Penn State
  • Penn State alumnus Patrick McIntyre will lead an online career planning session on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 7 to 8 p.m. via Zoom (registration is open now) to help alumni map out their professional journey.  Penn State
  • Penn State Outreach has shared an updated map showcasing nearly 4,000 community activities and over 50 million engagements across campuses. University units are invited to review and add new efforts (using an online dashboard) to keep the map current.  Penn State

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Assistant Professor Nutifafa Doumon and doctoral candidate Souk Yoon 'John' Kim at Penn State found that adding PQ (a low-cost chemical) improves the efficiency and lifespan of organic solar cells. Their study may help make solar power a more eco-friendly option.  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State is expected to hire Colorado State’s Kashif Moore as its new wide receivers coach after Noah Pauley left for the Packers. Moore, a former UConn receiver who coached at Conard High School and other programs, brings extensive experience for the upcoming season.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State men's hockey remains at No. 6 in the USCHO poll today after last weekend's series with No. 2 Michigan at Yost Arena, where a 4-4 draw featured freshman Jackson Smith scoring two record-setting goals and the team later lost the rematch 6-3.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State women’s hockey remains No. 4 in the USCHO rankings after splitting its home series with RIT last weekend (they are top-ranked in the AHA). The team will start a best-of-three series at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday, Feb. 27 to decide its spot in the championship game on Saturday, Mar. 7.  Onward State
  • Penn State star Tessa Janecke will compete for an Olympic gold medal with Team USA on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. in Milan after the team won four straight preliminary games and defeated Sweden in the semifinals + she has led with five assists in six games.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State hosts Rutgers today at Bryce Jordan Center at 6 p.m. as part of Academic Achievement Night & Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, with both teams near the bottom of Big Ten standings set for a close contest on the Big Ten Network.  Daily Collegian
  • The Penn State women's lacrosse team maintained its No. 23 ranking Monday after wins over UMass and Bucknell — they will host No. 25 Pitt Wednesday to try to climb the standings.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men’s hockey lost a shootout to Michigan but stayed No. 6 in the USCHO poll. The team will host Ohio State at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 at Pegula Ice Arena.  Onward State
