CULTURE NEWS

  • Bryce Jordan Center, which opened in 1996 and has hosted events ranging from commencements to concerts, celebrates 30 years with an anniversary year packed with future shows such as The Harlem Globetrotters on Feb. 24 and Winter Jam on March 28, and it recently upgraded its facilities.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences will host Ideas Lab: AI-Powered Materials Discovery, Design and Synthesis on Thursday, Mar. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 233AB HUB-Robeson Center at University Park + registration closed on Feb. 6 while lunch is provided.  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 14 Penn State men’s lacrosse stunned No. 3 Princeton 13-7 in New Jersey after an early surge — seven goals in the first quarter set the tone — and the team will face Navy on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.  Onward State
  • The Penn State men’s basketball team lost 83-72 to Oregon Saturday afternoon in Eugene. The team is returning home to face Rutgers (6 p.m. Wed., Feb. 18) at the Bryce Jordan Center.  Onward State
  • Penn State men's volleyball swept Princeton 3-0 on Saturday at Dillon Gymnasium (overcoming three match points to secure wins in the first and third sets). The Nittany Lions will open their home schedule against Harvard on Friday, Feb. 21 at Rec Hall South Gym.  Onward State
  • The Penn State women’s hockey team won its Valentine’s regular-season finale with a 4–2 win over RIT. Katelyn Roberts reached her 100th assist milestone during the game — the team will take a two-week break before hosting its semifinal on Feb. 27.  Daily Collegian
  • On Friday, Feb.13, redshirt freshman Cole Mirasola earned his biggest career win during the Big Ten Dual Meet Championship at Bryce Jordan Center as Penn State's heavyweight rallied to lead 33-5 against Ohio State & secured a 4-1 extra frame victory that put his national title hopes on track.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men's volleyball completed a weekend sweep over Princeton with 3-2 and 3-0 wins that dropped the Tigers to a 2-6 record. The team will return home Friday for a THON weekend series with Harvard at 6:00 p.m. & Saturday at 3:00 p.m.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State track and field runner Hayley Kitching broke the school record in the 800m at the Husky Classic on Saturday with a time of 1:59.22, marking her third record this season.  Daily Collegian
  • On Saturday morning, Penn State softball beat Lafayette 14-1 in five innings at the Houston Invitational in Houston, with freshmen and key pitchers contributing to the win; the team will face Houston Christian at 1:30 p.m. next.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State track and field athlete Handal Roban broke the men’s 800-meter record last Saturday at the ASICS Sound Invite—his time of 1:44.73 now ranks second in the NCAA even though he finished behind 17-year-old Nike professional Cooper Lutkenhaus.  Daily Collegian
