- ➤ Firehouse Subs will open its first Centre County location on North Atherton Street as local owners (Sanket Patel and Arun Patel) plan to serve made-to-order sandwiches. The opening date is uncertain, but they expect to launch by the end of the year. Onward State
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Treaty Oak Revival rocked the BJC Saturday night during their West Texas Degenerate Tour with a sold out crowd. The band played hits like No Vacancy and Ode to Bourbon while opening acts Huser Brothers and Wade Forster helped set the stage, leaving fans eager for their return. Onward State
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Five Penn Staters are representing their countries at the Winter Olympics in Italy in women’s hockey and skeleton. Team USA’s Tessa Janecke will face Switzerland at 2:40 p.m., Italy’s team meets Japan at 6:10 a.m., and Penn State alum Dan Barefoot starts his skeleton heats, all today. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State softball suffered its first loss when a key error cost them a 4-3 game against Auburn on Sunday morning at the NFCA Leadoff Classic. The team will travel to Houston to face Incarnate Word at 2 p.m. on Friday. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State Softball stayed unbeaten at the NFCA Leadoff Classic by winning 4-2 over Eastern Kentucky and 4-3 over BYU. The team will face Auburn tomorrow at 10 a.m. in its final game. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State track and field concluded the weekend Sykes and Sabock Challenge with several athletes posting personal bests — junior Gabrielle Deglau threw 17.86 meters and senior Handal Roban broke a school record in the 600-meters. The team will travel Friday to compete in meets in Boston, Washington and Arkansas. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Former Penn State long snapper Chris Stoll helped the Seahawks secure a 29-13 win over the Patriots on Sunday night in Super Bowl LX. He becomes the fourth Penn Stater in consecutive years to win the Super Bowl. Onward State
- ➤ USC guard Alijah Arenas scored the game-winning basket with less than one second left on Sunday, giving the Trojans a 77-75 win over Penn State. Coach Mike Rhoades said a defensive miscommunication cost the team the close game as it prepares to play Washington on Wednesday. Daily Collegian
