COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members gathered Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the State College Borough Municipal Building for the National Day of Racial Healing, which aimed to foster dialogue and understanding through shared personal stories & reflections. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State School of Hospitality Management is offering scholarships (up to $3,000 for a master’s and $1,000 for a certificate) and waiving application fees for employees at dues-paying PRLA member organizations who apply for fall 2026 or fall 2027 and are among the first 15 to enroll by May 14.  Penn State
  • The Ashtekar Frontiers of Science series opened at Penn State with talks on the search for habitable exoplanets and on how animals moved from water to land; the next lecture + focusing on climate will be held tomorrow, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. in room 001 Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Building.  Penn State
  • Ten graduate students will compete in Penn State’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) final round on Saturday, March 28, at 3 p.m. at the Nittany Lion Inn in University Park, where winners may earn cash prizes and a People’s Choice Award.  Penn State
  • Current Penn State students can apply by March 16 for a $2,500 research award in Indigenous knowledge — proposals will fund studies from May through next March and faculty volunteers are needed to review submissions.  Penn State

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Penn State researchers find that Grass2Gas practices, which use continuous cover plus anaerobic digestion, may cut a dairy farm's carbon footprint by over 20% and reduce nutrient runoff; adjustments may be needed to control water pollution amid increased off-farm feed imports.  Penn State
  • Bill Burgos, a Penn State professor of environmental engineering, explained that road salt is used to lower water's freezing point on roads yet can lead to vehicle corrosion and freshwater salinization. He advised using anti-icing liquids before storms to reduce salt use and safeguard local waterways.  Penn State

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Shapiro proposed funding allocations during his 2026-27 budget address to boost Penn State, setting aside $30 million for performance-based funding and $242.1 million for general support. Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi will speak before the House Appropriations Committee on March 11.  Daily Collegian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State’s men’s track team broke several NCAA records over recent weeks and is now ranked No. 4 with multiple top-five marks in key events. The team, positioned for its first Big Ten indoor championship, will compete in the postseason less than a month from now.  Daily Collegian
  • Linebacker Josh Banks announced his commitment to Penn State football on Twitter on Thursday morning. The Hollidaysburg native — a 5A All-State player — led his high school team in tackles last season and said he will join Bear Stadium for upcoming practices.  Onward State
  • Penn State wide receivers coach Noah Pauley was hired by the Green Bay Packers, leaving his role after three seasons with the Nittany Lions (he helped develop Christian Watson). CBS reported his move Thursday morning as head coach Campbell now seeks a replacement.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State head coach Matt Campbell has assembled a new coaching staff by hiring Taylor Mouser as offensive coordinator and welcoming D’Anton Lynn as the new defensive lead from Los Angeles. Additional hires from Iowa State and elsewhere join to guide the development of young players (transformational journey).  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State men’s hockey goalie Josh Fleming was named Co-HCA National Rookie of the Month today after posting a .952 save percentage and a 1.62 goals-against average in January, and his team will face Michigan on Friday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m.  Onward State
