CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Palmer Museum of Art in the College of Arts and Architecture will open 'Insistent Presence: Contemporary African Art from the Chazen Collection' on Saturday, Feb. 7—featuring 40 works by 22 artists. Public programs during spring will offer gallery talks and drop-in tours for visitors. Penn State
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Monday night, the school board approved final designs for Park Forest Middle School, a 270,000 sqft building on Little Lion Drive in Patton Township estimated at $152 million. The district will authorize bidding Feb. 16 and begin construction mid-May for a January 2029 opening (with planned traffic improvements). StateCollege.com
- ➤ Penn State University Libraries will host Love Data Week events on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in the Dewey Room at West Pattee Library featuring a viewing party for a data panel at 1 p.m.—followed by a data career fair at 2 p.m. for registered attendees. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State remains financially strong and will use its updated budget model to support student success and world-class education. Leaders will keep planning this spring, and the final FY28 budget will be reviewed by the Board in mid-July — a move to align funds with changing needs. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State students from architecture, landscape, graphic design and nursing took part in an inaugural design challenge at Stuckeman School in State College. Projects are on display (until Feb. 28) and the top-winning team featured a community design using Sidney Friedman Park to address aging society needs. Penn State
- ➤ Students and faculty from Penn State’s Cocoziello Institute toured Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square today to explore a sustainable development featuring a 100,000 sqft mass timber office building, retail space, apartments, and a hotel. - ➤ For American Heart Month, Penn State Extension hosts workshops and webinars today and later this month to share heart health tips. A noon DASH diet webinar is offered locally, and registration deadlines vary, register using code (HEART2026) for a $5 discount. Penn State

- ➤ Northwestern will host its Big Ten home opener against Penn State on Friday, Oct. 2 when it debuts its new Ryan Field. Construction is set to finish mid-Sept so the lakeside stadium can welcome fans. Onward State
- ➤ Coach Mike Rhoades said Kayden Mingo’s pivot play was not a travel during Penn State’s 77-75 win and provided injury updates on Ciani, Mirtič, Jurić, and Rice at Tuesday’s press conference at the Bryce Jordan Center - the coach also noted concerns over bench fatigue affecting future rotations. - ➤ Penn State Athletics announced that Pegula Ice Arena will host the 2026 Women’s Frozen Four from Friday, Mar. 20 to Sunday, Mar. 22. The event returns to Hockey Valley — last held in 2022 — and promises exciting college hockey action. Onward State
