CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Penn’s Woods Outdoor Art Exhibition at the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens invites Pennsylvania-based artists to submit proposals through Feb. 28 & create outdoor works that celebrate the state’s forests. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 honorarium for installations displayed from June through August. StateCollege.com
- ➤ Campus events across Penn State honor Martin Luther King Jr. with an MLK Day service today (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the HUB-Robeson Center), a memorial march tomorrow, and additional panels, films and performances scheduled over the coming weeks. Onward State
- ➤ Flo Rida performed his hits at SPA Day 2026 on Friday at Alumni Hall, where he brought high energy with two backup dancers + two hypemen. DJ Temi kicked off the event with an hour-long set that got the crowd moving. Onward State
- ➤ The African Students Association held its 13th annual Mr. and Miss Africa pageant Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Hub-Robeson Center, where five contestants showcased African culture and shared personal causes (including cultural performances) before the event ended at 10 p.m. Daily Collegian

- ➤ Penn State wrestling beat Northwestern 51-0 on Sunday at Welsh Ryan Arena as they scored bonus points in every bout while marking their 80th dual win — they are set to face Indiana at 7 p.m. Friday at Rec Hall. StateCollege.com
- ➤ On Sunday, Penn State faced Rutgers where freshman Kiyomi McMiller scored nine points and grabbed key rebounds despite the team falling short in conference play. Her performance kept Penn State in striking range throughout the contest. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Mark Wadsley has joined Penn State Field Hockey as associate head coach after following head coach Hannah Prince from Saint Joseph’s University (he brings international coaching experience to build the Nittany Lions team). Onward State
- ➤ Former Penn State football wide receiver Anthony Ivey has committed to transfer to San Jose State after playing 11 games over two seasons and recording a career catch in Sept. 2024 (one year of eligibility remains), as he seeks more playing time. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State’s football team is set for a big roster reshuffle after Friday’s transfer portal closure, with 76 players to leave and 55 newcomers — including 39 transfers and 16 freshmen — arriving to form a 107-player roster for spring practice at Happy Valley. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State basketball lost 96-73 to Maryland as guard Diggy Coit set a career-high with 43 points (including nine three-pointers) while injuries and lineup changes forced Coach Mike Rhoades to adjust his strategy. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State women's basketball faced Rutgers at Rec Hall on Sunday during its White Out and THON game, falling (76-72) in a close finish that denied the team its first Big Ten win. Daily Collegian
