CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Abby O’Shea led the Penn State Lionettes as captain in her senior year and performed at UDA Nationals in Florida after the team had to self-fund following cuts in university support. Community support rallied around the team and celebrated Abby’s lasting legacy in dance. Daily Collegian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Beth Johnson (director of academics for the Science BS/MBA program) was named the James and Alvina Balog Faculty Fellow of Science to support her work in teaching, research and public service at Eberly College of Science. The honor recognizes her role in preparing students for careers at the science-business interface. Penn State
- ➤ The Penn State Neuroscience Institute is launching its spring 2026 Seminar Series on Jan.22 with expert speakers presenting at University Park. The free seminars offer 11 a.m. talks at 110 Henderson Building and Zoom sessions with coffee and snacks for informal discussion. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State's annual CommunENTI event is set to welcome students interested in entrepreneurship on Jan. 21 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the sixth floor of the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub, where attendees can network with peers and faculty, enjoy food and games, and learn about majors and minors. Penn State
- ➤ Gary and Jill Brandeis donated $100,000 to endow the Brandeis Family Scholarship at Penn State Smeal, which supports full-time undergrads in accounting or real estate facing significant financial need. The gift already benefits a student this year and will grow with annual contributions. Penn State

- ➤ Research scientist Matthew Goldberg from Yale will talk about strategic climate communication at 4 p.m. on Feb. 24 in Foster Auditorium at Paterno Library. He aims to show ways to help people understand how to make a big impact on climate change. Penn State

- ➤ Penn State field hockey announced on Friday that Mark Wadsley is joining the staff as associate head coach in Happy Valley; he brings three years of experience from Saint Joseph’s and a background in college recruiting and international soccer training. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State women’s basketball is set to host Rutgers (both winless in conference play) at Rec Hall at 1 p.m. Sunday as star guard Kiyomi McMiller faces her former team in a bid for the first Big Ten win. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Junior Brooke Klosowicz was named among the top-10 preseason utility players by D1 Softball and Softball America after a historic season with 65 hits + .422 average. She will play with the Nittany Lions when they open their season on Feb. 6 in Clearwater, Florida. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State baseball announced game schedules for the Desert Invitational in Arizona. They will face Air Force at 8 p.m. on Feb. 13 on MLB.com, play Grand Canyon at 3 p.m. on Feb. 14 on MLB Network, and finish on Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. on MLB.com. Daily Collegian
