EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State Transportation Services offers winter travel options on campus and nearby – including early morning buses, e-bike sharing, Lyft ride credits, vanpool service and a Safe Walk program – with details available online.  Penn State
  • Penn State will launch its National College Health Assessment survey—inviting randomly selected University Park students to share their health details online starting Monday, Jan. 19—with submissions open until Friday, Feb. 6 and a chance to win Lion Cash prizes.  Penn State
  • An anonymous donor couple will add $55 million to their scholarship fund at Penn State, making it the largest endowed scholarship program at the University + it will support Pennsylvania students with financial need in the coming months.  Penn State
  • Created in honor of management professor emeritus R. William Millman, PSU Smeal now has an endowment to support graduate students with research and conference travel. His children established the fund to continue his legacy of academic excellence and professional growth.  Penn State
  • Penn State researchers have developed a new AI framework called ZENN that helps computers separate useful signals from noise using principles from thermodynamics. Tests show the system works as well as larger models and may help future research in Alzheimer’s disease and advanced materials design.  Penn State
  • Ten Penn State alumni have been notified they will receive the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award, the university's highest honor, to recognize their achievements and community service at University Park. The award includes an inscribed certificate and an engraved bronze medallion housed in a handcrafted box.  Penn State

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Harris Township and ClearWater Conservancy received a combined $518,600 in state funds on Monday from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which will support riparian buffers, outdoor education programs, and improvements at Tussey Pond Park.  StateCollege.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Following a sweep over Minnesota that boosted the Nittany Lions to No. 8 in the USCHO poll, Penn State men's hockey earned a one spot jump last Saturday on home ice. The team will host Notre Dame at 7 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Saturday at Pegula Ice Arena.  Daily Collegian
  • On Monday, Jan. 12, Penn State men's volleyball players Ryan Merk and Sean Harvey earned EIVA Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week honors—Merk recorded 9 digs per match and Harvey made 13 to 14 kills—and they will play against St. Thomas Aquinas at 7 p.m. Thursday.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men’s basketball associate head coach Jamal Brunt—recognized for his strong defense—was named one of the Top 100 Most Impactful High Major Assistants by Silver Waves Media on Monday. He guided the team to strong defensive rankings and helped recruit Kayden Mingo, the program's highest-rated prospect.  Onward State
  • Penn State is active in the transfer portal today as it adds offensive linemen Tyshon Huff and Carter Kadow and reworks its running back plans with Cam Wallace returning and Tikey Hayes entering.
